Pocket Mortys

Wubba lubba dub dub, I am LOVING this mobile game! Pocket Mortys dropped on Jan. 13 and I've been playing it non-stop for the past week.

If you're not familiar with the show, Rick and Morty is an animated series on Adult Swim that parodies Back to the Future and is packed with tons of sci-fi pop culture references. Rick is an alcoholic genius scientist who drags his grandson, Morty, on wild adventures through other dimensions where they encounter a variety of monstrous aliens.

The game, currently available for free on iOS and Android devices, plays like Pokémon. You capture, train, and battle freaky versions of Morty.

When you're as popular as Pokémon, there's bound to be imitators. In fact, JonTron has previously covered some of the bootleg Pokémon games out there. For a free game though, this has to be one of the best out there.

Currently, there are 82 different Mortys to collect. They're separated by a simple rock-paper-scissors type and you just combine two of the same Mortys to evolve them. Here's a complete list of Mortys including their evolutions:

For anyone looking to get into this game, my biggest tip is probably to level up your Mortys yourself. Level grinding can be time consuming so it's tempting to catch Mortys at higher levels and combining them for even higher level evolutions. Sometimes this can work out but most of the time I've noticed the Mortys losing some of their better offensive moves.

Here's a helpful list of recipes that you can craft from items you find along the way: http://www.gamerevolution.com/faq/pocket-mortys/full-recipe-list-for-pocket-mortys-121601

The first 9 items on that list are the ones you'll be crafting the most for yourself as the rest are for side quests and can be crafted when necessary. Save as much money as you can for the Attack, Defense, and Speed Mega Seeds that become available for purchase at the shop when you progress far enough in the game. Once you've found your dream team, you can level them up until they max out at 100 but keep boosting their stats through Mega Seeds.

Have fun catching Mortys and battling them everyone!
