Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Pies

No, I haven't forgotten about this blog. I've just been preparing for Halloween over at the Z-portal. Since I haven't posted anything on here since July, I thought I'd drop a quickie post. Does anyone remember the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle pies?

As a kid, I was a fan of all things Ninja Turtles. I remember trying to catch the show before school, I had a VHS tape that I would rewatched over and over again, and I had a ton of the action figures. I even remember dialing up QVC or one of those channels to order a TMNT electric toothbrush without permission. By the time it came to payment, I called out to my mom who was probably going to yell at me but saw how much I really wanted it. I think it was somewhere around $20, so she sprung for it. (Thanks mom!) Point is, I just could NOT get enough of those turtles.

One day we were walking around the supermarket when I spotted a Hostess pocket pie with the TMNT logo on it. I immediately asked my mom to buy one for me and once again, being the awesome mom that she was, picked me up one of these pies knowing absolutely nothing about it. She gave it to me after dinner and was shocked to see the whole thing was green!

And looked like a radioactive Hulk turd

From memory alone, I could've sworn it looked like your average Home Run pie but with green filling. However, I found the commercial on YouTube years later and realized that it was actually covered in a green glaze. The only reason I remember the green so well (other than the fact that everything TMNT related was colored green) was because I was jumping around and playing on my parent's bed after eating that pie and threw up a bright green mess. And so, I never got to eat another one of these undoubtedly diabetes-inducing confectioneries again. That didn't stop me from loving the show or collecting the toys (Or springing for that totally sweet box set that came in the turtle van!) but I do wish I could remember what this thing tasted like.

Since there's a new show for a new generation, I say we bring back these turtle pies!!! I'm positive these are in no way healthy but I sure they will sell like hot cakes... er... hot pies...um... room temperature pies... people will buy them!
