Grayson: Earth One

I'm a big time fan of comic books. Not in the sense that I can recite issue numbers by heart or own a collection of obscure comics, just that I really enjoy them and typically enjoy most films or television series based on a superhero character. So when I was contacted about a series that's trying to get funding on IndieGoGo right now, I thought I'd throw up a quick blurb about it.

http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/grayson-earth-one-season-one--2

The project is an original series based on Nightwing from the Batman comics. Apparently, this will be a loose adaptation as this series will be taking place separate from the DC Universe. The project is described as "a non profit six episode season dedicated to exploring the origin story of the DC character known as Nightwing -- but with a twist."

The twist here being that Dick Grayson was never adopted by Bruce Wayne and never became the boy wonder. Instead, he had to fend for himself all these years in the streets and must now overcome his survivalist attitude to become a selfless individual.

I can always appreciate a new take on things, as long as the change was not a result of someone who did not understand the source material. Without further ado, here is the pilot for Grayson: Earth One

Not bad. I totally thought that Batman looked like one of those fake Batmen (Batmans?) from The Dark Knight though. Coming to us from P3 Productions, this web series is trying to hit a $40,000 goal by July 20. Get out there and show your support! Everything donated will go to production costs.

Ultimate Rider Henshin Collection

Growing up, I never had much exposure to the Kamen Rider series as I was a die-hard Power Rangers fan. They tried to adapt Kamen Rider as Masked Rider here in the states, but the show never took off. (I only caught about a handful of episodes myself)

Luckily, with the interwebs, I can find out more about Kamen Rider. Including this here video that collects all Rider transformation sequences. This baby is almost an hour long, so make sure you've got the time!!

Ultraman vs Kamen Rider

This segment is from a television special that aired back in 1993 featuring clips from both shows, interviews with stars, and this crossover segment. Apparently this finally received a DVD/Blu-Ray release back in 2011, to commemorate the 45th anniversary of Ultraman and the 40th Anniversary of Kamen Rider. I'm trying to get my hands on a copy right now, I'll keep everyone posted!

Where did May go?!?

Holy cow, where does all the time go? The last time I posted anything was half way through May and we're already 3 days into June! That's completely unbelievable...

Well, if anyone cares to know what I've been up to, I've been on the forum mostly. There have been some major changes to the forum (not that I expect anyone to actually know the difference seeing as the forum was on the verge of being deleted due to inactivity!) but I've moved a bunch of things around, created a few new boards, and posted a ton of new content. I also went through and deleted outdated links to YouTube videos so most of the stuff on there is up to date. (Most not all)

Seeing as the forum isn't very popular, I've just been using it as a dump site for the videos and links I come across. Because of this, there's tons and tons of stuff to watch and check out if you're bored. I would recommend dropping by and giving us a look.

http://zportal.freeforums.org/

I added a few public domain movies to the Horror Movies board and a couple on the Sci-Fi board as well. I added some of the Angry Video Game Nerd's review of older systems onto the Classic Video Games board. Created a section for Xtreme Sports by condensing all the MMA boards into one and adding a couple of other boards under it. Also added separate boards for food and toys.

Other than adding content to the forum, as always, I've been adding to my DVD collection as well. Recently I received from Amazon:

The ghost with the most!

My Beetlejuice box set! I ordered this baby back in February and it came last week. One thing I have to complain about is the condition that it arrived in. Considering that I paid $70 for this box set, I thought it would come in a box but arrived in a crappy bubble mailer instead. This practically guaranteed that the box was going to be messed and when I opened it, sure enough, the box was pretty roughed up. If I had bought this with the intention of keeping it as a collector's item, I would've been severely disappointed. Since I was going to open and watch it anyway, I didn't care to make a fuss. Just a warning to anyone else that's looking to pick this up! I would've picked this baby up directly from Shout! Factory instead, if it was available to order. Still, thank you Shout! Factory!!!!

The other DVD that arrived from Amazon was the 3-disc set of Wrestling's Highest Flyers. This is actually one of the better WWE Home Videos I've seen that isn't about a specific wrestler. There is a surprisingly good selection of matches here. I half expected it to be 3-discs of WWE trying to push their younger talents (which they did a little) but was surprised they also had a few WCW matches including one between Sting and the Great Muta in Japan! I love that they're making use of their massive video library.

My biggest complaint about this one are actually the old WWF matches. They included the TLC match from Wrestlemania 2000, but it was totally ruined by the blurs over the old WWF logo. I found this to be really distracting, which is utterly disappointing because that has got to be one of the most memorable matches of all time!!!

Like trying to watch Bigfoot wrestle

Seriously, how are you supposed to enjoy that?! The WWE borders are also really annoying but you forget they're even there if you start getting into the match. I'm watching disc 2 as I write this and I would definitely recommend this to any fans of pro wrestling, especially if you enjoyed WCW's Cruiserweight division or TNA's X-Division!! Check out this insane list of matches:

Not bad for a DVD that's currently $12 on Amazon, eh?

The last bit of treasure I picked up recently came from Los Angeles' Chinatown. I cannot stress how much I love Chinese video stores as they always have the latest Asian releases but you'll find mad deals on TV series and anime as well. For example, I was able to score this 19-disc box set of the popular anime, Detective Conan (which some of you here in the States might remember as the show Case Closed on Adult Swim), for only $18. The sticker said $19, which was already a steal, but they let me haggle $1 off the sticker price! The video quality on the first disc I popped in looked pretty good too. Unbelievable. Have I mentioned how much I love Chinese video stores?
